What are the Risk Factors?
There are several factors that can help you determine your risk of developing AMD. Some factors, such as age or family history are non-modifiable, meaning you cannot change them. Others, involving lifestyle and behaviour, are called modifiable risk factors and they can be changed if you choose to do so.
As with any disease, symptoms may develop in people with no risk factors or, conversely, never develop in those with all the risk factors.
What is known is that there tends to be a strong association between the number of risk factors present and the likelihood of developing AMD.
